Dates for Super Falcons’ Summer Series fixtures confirmed

The dates for Nigeria senior women’s team fixtures at this year’s four-team US Summer Series tournament, which will also feature hosts USA, Portugal and Jamaica, have been confirmed.
Randy Waldrum’s team will begin their campaign with a fixture against Jamaica at BBVA Stadium, Texas, on June 10, with the game scheduled to kick off at 10:30PM Nigerian Time.

The Super Falcons have faced the USWNT four times in the World Cup

On June 14, the African champions play Portugal at BBVA Stadium, before facing USA at Q2 Stadium three days later.

The tie against Vlatko Andonovski’s side will be the first-ever game to be held at the newly-constructed 20,500-seat facility — which is the home ground of Major League Soccer club Austin FC.

For Nigeria, the fixture will provide an opportunity to shed the scars of four World Cups defeats against the current world champions.
Nigeria W record vs USA W
1999: USA 7-1 Nigeria – World Cup
2003: USA 5-0 Nigeria – World Cup
2007: Nigeria 0-1 USA – World Cup
2015: Nigeria 0-1 USA – World Cup
Again, the Super Falcons see the tournament as an avenue for preparation for the 2022 AWCON qualifying first-round, two-legged tie against arch rivals, Ghana.

Earlier, Nigeria’s participation in the Series plunged into doubt as the tournament dates conflicted with the fixtures against Ghana — which first and second legs were slated for June 5 and 15 respectively.
However, such doubts were cleared after CAF announced that the matches have been moved to later in the year.
Of the teams taking part in the Summer Series, USA are the only nation that will be participating in the 2020 Olympics that will be staged later this year.
