Mexico announce July friendly with Nigeria
Nigeria will face Mexico in an international friendly at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4.
The tie, which will be the sixth between the two sides, was announced on Tuesday by the Mexican Football Federation.

“The Mexican Football Federation and Soccer United Marketing report that the Mexican National Team will face its Nigerian counterpart on Saturday, July 3 at 8:00 p.m. local (10:00 p.m. from Mexico City) at the historic Los Angeles Coliseum,” the CONCACAF Gold Cup champions confirmed on their official website.
Mexico are preparing for this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup which will hold from July 10 to August 1, and have lined up a couple of test matches ahead of the biennial tournament.

El Trio will play Iceland on May 30, Honduras on June 13, Panama on July 1, before facing the Super Eagles.
The game will kick off at 4AM Nigerian time.

Mexico gaffer Gerardo Martino expects a tough challenge from the three-time African champions whom the Gold Cup record title holders have beaten only once in five attempts.
“Nigeria is a tough opponent, they offer a different level of competition,” said Martino.
Nigeria and Mexico meetings — the last which came on March 5, 2014 — have produced four draws and a win for Mexico.
The two teams first met on January 13, 1995 — in the third-place match of the FIFA Confederation Cup, then known as King Fahd Cup. Daniel Amokachi cancelled out Ramon Raminez’s strike, but the Mexicans went on to win the game 5-4 on penalties.
