Kennedy Boboye: Akwa United coach fined for unacceptable conduct

 

Akwa United head coach Kennedy Boboye has been charged for improper conduct and fined ₦250,000 by the League Management Company over his criticism of match officials following his team’s loss at Heartland on Sunday.
Boboye, 47, criticised referee Kazzim Abdulsalam and his assistants during a post-match interview at Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday.

Akwa United took the lead through Mfon Udoh, but second-half goals from Samuel Nnoshiri and Pascal Eze earned the hosts a 2-1 win.
But Boboye was not happy about a number of calls made by the referee, including allowing Eze’s goal.
“I am highly disappointed in the referees, highly. The two goals the team (Heartland) scored were not supposed to be goals. The first penalty was not a penalty; the second goal was an offside goal,” the former Nigeria U20 international was quoted as saying.
In addition to the fine, the former Plateau United boss has been handed a one-match stadium ban, meaning that he won’t be at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday when his side take on Kano Pillars.
Meanwhile, Akwa United have been given fines amounting to ₦3million over “breach of the Framework and Rules of the NPFL, in the course of the Matchday 5 fixture against Wikki Tourists”.
The two-time Aiteo Cup winners’ contingent were charged with harassment of match officials following their 1-1 draw with Wikki Tourists at Godswill Akpabio Stadium on January 18.
The league body accused some Akwa United officials of harassing match officials immediately after the tie, revealing that “the Assistant Referee II sustained injuries to his head & face” during the incident.
“Consequently, the following sanctions has been imposed:
a) a fine of N1 million for failure to ensure adequate protection for match officials &
b) a fine of N500,000 for harassment of match officials,” an LMC statement explained the decisions.
It added: “Furthermore, the LMC also imposed another fine of N1 million to be paid as compensation to the match officials; & an additional fine of N500,000 for misconduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute.”
The Promise Keepers have been given 48 hours to either accept the charges or face a panel of inquiry.
