Uchenna Kanu bags brace in Linköpings win over Uppsala


Nigeria senior women’s team forward Uchenna Kanu netted a brace, as Linköpings earned a 3-1 victory against Uppsala in the Damallsvenskan on Sunday to end a a three-match losing streak.
Kanu, who was on scoresheet in the humiliating 7-1 loss at Rosengard a week ago, scored either side of half-time on Sunday to take her league tally to five for the season.
Linköpings started the game strongly, but nearly went behind after Cassandra Corhonen rounded Cajsa Andersson. The forward was denied by Lisa Hurtig’s goal line clearance.
In the 21st minute, the hosts were in front through Kanu, who fired through the goalkeeper’s legs after receiving a pass from Sofie Bredgaard.
Kanu doubled the lead on the hour mark, stabbing home a rebound after goalkeeper Emma Holmgren spilled Alva Selerud’s shot into her path.
The former Sevilla star came off after 83 minutes, with compatriot Ebere Orji taking her place.
And barely a minute after coming on, the nigerian set up Lina Hurtig to increase the lead to 3-0.
Deep into stoppage time, though, Beata Olsson netted a consolation to deny Olof Unogård’s side a clean sheet.
