St. Mirren 0-1 Rangers: Cyriel Dessers nets winner

Cyriel Dessers scored the only goal as Rangers beat St. Mirren 1-0 at Paisley 2021 Stadium to temporarily move to within two points of the Scottish Premier League summit.

The Nigeria striker beat Zachary Hemming in the St. Mirren goal to score after latching onto John Lundstram’s delightful lofted through pass.

The strike — his third goal in his last three matches — took his goal tally in the Scottish Premiership to eight and 12 in all competitions.

Dessers’ coach Phillipe Clement in post-match interview praised the 29-year old striker for adapting to the team, following his €6m summer move from Cremonese.

“I am really happy with the way he [Dessers] has evolved in these three months together and the way he is adapting to the team,” Phillipe Clement said.

“Cyriel scored the goal today but he was also very important in link-up play and keeping balls in front so that is also important it is not only about scoring for me with the strikers.”
