Samuel Kalu scores late to rescue point for Bordeaux against Montpellier

Samuel Kalu came off the bench to score his first goal of the season as Bordeaux and Montpellier played out a dramatic six-goal thriller in Ligue 1 at Stade de la Mosson on Wednesday.
Brought on at half-time, the Nigeria international found the back of the net in the 85th minute to rescue a point for Vladimir Petkovic’s side in the matchday 7 fixture.
The hosts needed only 11 minutes to get in front, with Valere Germain tapping in Stephy Mavididi’s brilliant square pass.
The lead, though, didn’t last for long, as South Korea international Ui-Jo Hwang fired in a screamer eight minutes later to bring his side level.
And just before the half-hour mark, the visitors scored again — this time through Cameroon midfielder Jean Onana, who smashed a stunning volley from distance into the top corner — to ensure that Bordeaux went into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
Twenty-fives after the interval, however, Bordeaux found themselves trailing again, after they conceded twice. Germain netted his second of the game to level the scores when he headed home Teji Savanier’s free-kick at the near post and Florent Mollet took the score to 3-2 in favour of the home side with an exquisite volley.
With the game approaching the final five minutes, it looked like Bordeaux were going to return to Matmut Atlantique empty handed, but Kalu had other ideas.
The 24-year-old scored a brilliant solo goal. After controlling a long cross, the winger found himself surrounded by four navy-blue shirts. He managed to keep his composure, wriggled past three players and before another Montpellier player could tackle him, he fired beyond goalkeeper Jonas Omlin and into the back of the net to earn his side a deserved point.
