Gbenga Ogungbote steps down as Sunshine Stars head coach after dismal run

Gbenga Ogungbote has left his job as Sunshine Stars head coach after just eight months in charge.
The former Enugu Rangers gaffer has been under intense pressure for several weeks following the Akure Gunners’ disappointing run.
Ogungbote joined the Sunshine Stars in September last year for a second spell, but has now quit after a run of 16 league games without a win — which has left the Owena Whales 18th on the log.
He tendered his resignation few hours after his side played out a goalless draw with MFM at home on Wednesday.
The tactician cited poor welfare of players as the reason for his departure, and explained that his team struggled because they did not get enough support from the club’s management.
In recent months, morale at the club’s dressing room has been so low owning to unpaid salaries.
