Enyimba handed two north African opposition in Confederation Cup group stage
Enyimba have been grouped with E.S. Setif, Orlando Pirates and Ahly Benghazi in the ground stage of this season’s Confederation Cup.
For the second straight season, the Aba club will face two north African sides, after they were drawn alongside eight-time Algerian top-flight champions E.S. Setif and Libyan club Ahly Benghazi in Monday’s draw held in Cairo.

Last season, the two-time Champions League winners were in the same group with Moroccan club Hassania Agadir and Algerian side Paradou.
They secured a knockout spot after finishing second in the group that also featured Ivorian team San Pedro, but were eliminated from the tournament by Guinea heavyweights Horoya.
Now the only Nigerian side left in CAF competitions, Enyimba will be looking to add the Confederation Cup title to their trophy cabinet.
Fatai Osho’s side started this season’s continental campaign in the Champions League, but dropped into the Confederation Cup, after they were dumped out of the tournament in the second preliminary round by Sudan club Al Merreikh.
To reach the group stage of the second-tier competition, The People’s Elephant needed a shootout victory against fellow Nigerian club Rivers United in the final preliminary round game on Sunday.
Fortune Omoniwari’s first-half strike in the second leg brought the aggregate score to 1-1, but Enyimba prevailed in the shoot-out to progress — thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper John Noble, who stopped two penalties before scoring the decisive spot-kick.
