Ahmed Musa offers Super Eagles supporters apology for shock draw with Sierra Leone

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scores against Sierra Leone in Friday’s AFCON qualifying match in Benin City

Ahmed Musa has apologized to Nigeria fans following the Super Eagles’ embarrassing 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone in Benin City on Friday.
Nigeria looked on course to securing a big win against the Leone Stars in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match after taking a 4-0 lead within 29 minutes of kickoff, but Gernot Rohr’s men faltered afterwards –allowing Sierra Leone snatch a point.
Reacting to his team’s collapse against John Keister’s men, the Nigeria captain admitted his side were disappointed with the result and said sorry to the team’s fans.
“We’re really, really sorry for a disappointing game tonight,” said Musa. “We know we made a very big mistake in the game.”

The 28-year-old, who’s now without a club after leaving Saudi club Al-Nassr this year, promised to atone for the embarrassing result against the 120th-ranked team.
“We’re going to fix our mistakes. We’re doing our best to see that we qualify for the AFCON.
“On behalf of myself and team-mates, we’re very, very sorry for the game tonight, and we’re going to make it up [to you].”
Despite dropping points against Sierra Leone, Nigeria still lead group L with seven points — four clear of second-placed Benin, who host Lesotho today.
On Tuesday, the three-time African Champions travel to Freetown for the reverse fixture.
A win in the game could secure Nigeria qualification for the biennial tournament.
