Victor Osimhen secures Napoli transfer

Napoli have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen after a drawn-out transfer process.
Osimhen moves to the Serie A side on a four-year deal from French club LOSC Lille, where he netted 18 goals in 38 games across all competitions last season.
“SSC Napoli are delighted to announce the signing of Victor Osimhen from Lille on a permanent transfer,” the Naples club wrote on their official website.
The 21-year-old, according to reports in Italy, was close to switching to Genarro Gattuso’s side in June, but a deal could not be wrapped up owing to alleged dishonesty of his former agent Jean Gerard Benoit Czajka.
Osimhen, seemingly disappointed with the way Czajka handled the negotiations, dismissed the Frenchman and hired a new agent.
However, serious talks over the striker’s transfer to San Paolo Stadium continued on Monday, and on Friday an agreement was reached.
The transfer fee is thought to be in the region of €60m plus an array of potential bonuses that can take the deal up to €81m.
Osimhen came through the youth ranks at Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos.
He represented Nigeria at the 2015 U17 FIFA World Cup — and finished as top scorer in the competition, as Nigeria clinched gold.
An impressive showing at the U17 tournament earned him a move to German club Wolfsburg in 2017.
Charleroi took the Nigerian on loan the following season from the Bundesliga outfit after he struggled to establish himself.
After the loan deal expired, the Belgian club chose to sign the player permanently.
That decision paid off, as Osimhen notched 19 goals in 34 Jupiler Pro League matches the following season.
In the summer of 2019, Lille snapped up the forward.
He became an instant hit at Les Dogues, scoring 13 goals in 27 Ligue 1 games and two in five Champions League matches.
