Desire Oparanozie quits Guingamp

Former Nigeria senior women’s team captain Desire Oparanozie has brought down the curtain on her six-year Guingamp career.
The 26-year old — one of six players to be released by Guingamp after the Division 1 Féminine prematurely ended due to coronavirus pandemic — announced her departure from the club on Monday.
She wrote on Twitter: “After six years playing for En Avant Guingamp, I’m going to start a new chapter. I want to thank all the team members, and the fans, for these incredible years. Thank you so much.”
Guingamp responded to the forward’s farewell message, thanking her for “all these amazing goals” and wishing her success.
The message was accompanied by a “thank you” and two “love” emojis.

Oparanozie moved to Fred-Aubert Stadium in 2014 from Turkish outfit Ataşehir Belediyesi.
She started her European adventure in 2011 when she moved to Turkish club Lüleburgaz 39 Spor from Nigerian club Delta Queens. From there, she joined Russian side Rossiyanka.
After a season in Russia, Oparanozie joined Wolfsburg but could not secure a first-team place at the German club.
The following season, she moved to Ataşehir Belediyesi — from where she switched to Guingamp.
Owerri-born Oparanozie, who was stripped of the Super Falcons captaincy last year after leading her international team-mates to protest against unpaid match bonuses, is now a free agent.
She made 106 appearances for Guingamp, scoring 45 goals.
It’s not clear if she’ll be joining another club anytime soon but in a video, she told her fans, “And for my real fans, I know what the question is: where to next? Well, stay tuned for my next update.”
