Taiwo Awoniyi nets first Mainz goal as Bundesliga returns

Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first Bundesliga goal to help Mainz come from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw at Koln, as action returned to the Bundesliga after over two months of inactivity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Playing his first game since the 2-1 loss at Augsburg on December 7, the 22-year old made the most of his substitute appearance by tapping in Bote Baku’s square pass to give his side hopes of a comeback after Mark Uth’s early penalty and Florian Kainz’s 53rd-minute strike had given the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Cameroon striker Malong Kunde ensured a share of the spoils with his third goal of the season, on 72 minutes.
The result leaves Awoniyi’s side just a spot above the drop zone.

Awoniyi moved to the Zero-fivers at the start of the season after his loan contract at Mouscron came to an end.
Originally a Liverpool player, the Super Eagles player has yet to kick a ball for the Reds.
Twice, he has been sent out on loan to Mouscron — the second spell of which he netted 11 goals in 16 league games.
The U23 Africa Cup of Nations winner has also had loan stints at Gent, Nijmejen and FSV Frankfurt.
