Kenneth Omeruo nets first goal of the season as Leganes earn comeback win against Real Sociedad
Kenneth Omeruo netted his first goal of the season in Leganes’ 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad at Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Sunday.
Listed in a five-man defence line that also featured Roberto Rosales, Unai Bustinza, Jonathan Silva and his international team-mate Chidozie Awaziem, Omeruo capped a fine defensive display with a goal.
The Nigeria international, who sat out Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona, found the bottom corner from Martin Braithwaite’s short pass four minutes after the break to cancel Alexander Isak’s 20th-minute opener.
And deep into stoppage time, just when it seemed Imanol Alguacil’s men had earned a point in the La Liga game, Rodriguez Oscar fired in an exquisite freekick past the wall and into the top corner, sparking scenes of wild celebrations.
The win, the first for Javier Aguirre’s side since a 2-0 victory over Espanyol on December 22, takes them closer to safety — level on points with 17th-placed Mallorca.
