Nasarawa United FC of Lafia on Sunday came from a goal down to beat Abia Warriors 3-1 in an entertaining encounter where both teams played beautiful football to the admiration of the spectators.
The Matchday 18 encounter played at the Lafia Township Stadium, saw the hosts’ fans returning to the stadium after the closed doors ban was lifted earlier in the week in Coach Abubakar Arikya’s first big win at home.
The hosts went behind with just three minutes into the game paying for their lack of concentration before the goal.
Emmanuel Ugwuka got into an exchange of a one-two pass with Okon Otop before sweetly finding the back of the net for the visitors, stretching Danlami Umar to his far left for the goal.
Emmanuel Ugwuka again got another opportunity to double the lead but his poorly taken shot was dealt with by Danlami Umar in goal for Nasarawa United.
The hosts, Nasarawa United evened the scores in the 28th minute and were back in the contest when Yusuf Anas’ free kick deflected into the Abia Warriors’ net by Abubakar Lawal.
Nasarawa United controlled most of the possessions and were always dangerous moving forward but their final touches were poor in most occasions they poured forward.
Two minutes before the break, Chidi Solomon followed Abdallah Mohammed’s initial shot to put the hosts ahead for the first time in the game.
The second stanza of the game began with the tempo a little bit down but the hosts still enjoyed most of the possessions with the visitors leaving Okon Otop up front to wait for a break to counter the hosts.
Ismaila Mohammed in the 55th minute dribbled through the Abia Warriors’ defense from the left flank but Nwakanma was in the right place to collect his cross easily to deny the hosts again.
There was much excitement in the stands when Haggai Katoh came on for Abubakar Lawal in the 70th minute and only lasted just four minutes before scoring Nasarawa United’s third goal of the game.
The Nasarawa United’s new signing capitalised on Austin Obaraokpo’s defensive mishap to put the game beyond the visitors.
