IGIEBOR JOINS MLS CLUB VANCOUVER WHITECAPS
Nigeria international midfielder, Nosa Igiebor has joined USA Major League Soccer club, Vancouver Whitecaps for the rest of the 2017 season, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, Canadian work permit, visa and medical examinations.
The 26-year old former Real Betis midfield enforcer, will fill the international spot left behind by injured Argentine defensive midfielder, Matias Laba and has been given the option of extending his contract till 2019 by the Canadian club.
“Nosa is a box-to-box midfielder who brings a lot of experience having played in some of the top leagues in the world,” Head coach Carl Robinson told Whitecapsfc.com.
“When you have an opportunity to bring in a player with this pedigree, you take it. Nosa adds competition for places in our midfield, which will only help strengthen our group,” he concluded.
Igiebor joined Turkish club, Caykur Rizespor from Israeli side Macabi Tel-Aviv, on a three-and-a-half year contract in January, where he made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice, before terminating the deal on a mutual consent in July, following the club’s relegation to the second tier.
Igiebor has two goals in 15 appearances with the Nigeria senior national team and was a member of the team that won the 2013 African Cup of Nations
The former Sharks FC and Warri Wolves midfielder has also enjoyed stints with Hapoel Tel Aviv where he won the Israel State Cup twice, and Lillestrøm in Norway.
