Super Eagles: Gernot Rohr sacked as head coach

Gernot Rohr has been sacked as Nigeria head coach, the Nigeria Football Federation has announced.
The former Niger handler’s dismissal comes after a series of unconvincing performances, particularly in the World Cup Qualifiers.
The NFF confirmed the 68-year-old’s sacking following a virtual meeting of the Executive Committee on Sunday.
The NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said: “The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria.”
Rohr, who was due to guide Nigeria to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, was appointed Nigeria manager in 2016.
He guided Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup qualification and third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON held in Egypt.

New interim boss Augustine Eguavoen could lead Nigeria to the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon

Technical Director of the team Augustine Eguavoen has been placed in charge in the interim and could lead the team to next year’s AFCON, which will run from January 9 to February 6.
Eguavoen — who is returning to the side for a second spell, having coached them in 2006 — will work alongside Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach), Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach), Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach), Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).
