CAF to confirm World Cup Play-offs draw dates next week

The dates for African FIFA World Cup Play-offs draw will be revealed after 25 November’s CAF Executive Committee meeting in Cairo.

The second qualifying round was concluded on Tuesday — with Nigeria becoming one of the last five nations to book a place in the play-offs, after securing top spot in Group C with a home draw against Cape Verde.

Gernot Rohr’s team will be joined in the play-offs by nine other teams — Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Mali, Cameroon Ghana and DR Congo — who all won top spot in their respective groups.

All ten teams will wait to discover their opponents.

However, the top-ranked teams already know they will avoid one another, following CAF’s decision to seed the teams according to the FIFA rankings.

That means, Nigeria — ranked fifth in Africa — will not meet the likes of Senegal(1), Morocco (2), Tunisia (3) and Algeria(4).
