Genk’s Pul Onuachu scores first hat-trick of the season in comfortable win against Seraing
Paul Onuachu extended his brilliant goalscoring form to five matches with a hat-trick against Seraing in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.
Onuachu scored twice from open play and once from the spot, after blowing away a 34th-minute penalty following a foul on Japanese international Junya Ito.
The hat-trick — his first since Genk’s 4-1 win against KAS Eupen on January 7 — took his tally to eight in the last five games and 11 for the season.
Onuachu netted his first of the evening on 42 minutes, rolling the ball over the line after a brilliant pass from Ito. He doubled the lead two minutes later with another close-range strike, and grabbed his third with a spot-kick after John Paintsil was brought down in the area.
The result took Genk up to third in the Pro League standings.
The 27-year-old — deservedly voted man-of-the-match — has carried on where he left off last season, after failing to secure a move away from Belgium in the summer.
Last season, Onuachu scored 29 league goals in 33 regular-season appearances and four in five play-off games.
