Godspower Aniefiok back at Akwa United for third spell

Godspower Aniefiok has rejoined his hometown club Akwa United after leaving Enugu Rangers.
The attacking midfielder, who scored seven league goals for Rangers last season, has returned for his third spell at the Promise Keepers after putting pen to paper on a deal last week.
Aniefiok — a former AC Milan youth team player — first joined Akwa United in 2014, following his departure from Uyo-based Greater Tomorrow Football Academy.
After one season at the Promise Keepers, who were playing their home matches at Uyo Township Stadium at the time, he moved to Kano Pillars.
In January 2016, he departed Pillars to join Tunisian giants Étoile du Sahel and from there, he made a number of moves — one of which saw him play for Lithuanian outfit FK Palanka — before moving back to Akwa United in March 2019 for a second stint.
But five months later, he moved away from the club once again — this time to sign for Enugu Rangers, after reportedly clashing with team-mate Matthew Etim during training.
The Nigeria Professional Football League 2021-22 transfer window opened on August 2, and Akwa United — who claimed the Nigeria Professional Football League title earlier this month — are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the continental competitions preliminary rounds.
Surely, the capture of Aniefiok will boost the team who, on Monday, kicked off their preparations for next month’s CAF Champions League two-legged first-round tie against Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions CR Belouizdad — who, with four rounds of matches left to play, are on the verge of winning the top-flight title for a second straight season.
In Monday’s training, Aniefiok was spotted alongside Ezekiel Bassey and Denis Nya, who have also made returns to the team.

 
Bassey, a Nigeria international, rejoins the club from Egyptian club Al Qanah for a third stinct, while Nya re-signs from Plateau United for a second spell.
In addition to re-signing the trio, Kennedy Boboye’s side have secured the transfers of Dakkada duo Austin Osayande and Isaac George, as well as James Ajako, Etop Udoh and Evans Ogbonda.
Left-backs Ajako and Ogbonda join from relegated sides Jigawa Golden Stars and Ifeanyi Ubah respectively, while Udoh signs from Saudi club FC Arar.
Meanwhile, Akwa United have parted company with a number of first-team players.
Surprisingly, Matthew Etim — who moved to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium from  Enugu Rangers in 2017 — is one of the names on the list of departures.
The right-back has been released alongside Bassey Akpan, David Essien, Ekemini Ukoebe, Kodjovi Dadzie, Hamisu Saleh, Ikechukwu Nwani, Sadick Abass, Eko Barine and Adamu Aliyu.
