Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna completes move to Umeå

Nigeria senior women’s team defender Glory Ogbonna has joined Swedish club Umeå IK from Nigerian club Edo Queens.
Ogbonna is understood to have been courted by a number of European clubs as far back as January but Edo Queens reportedly blocked the defender from leaving.
However, the former Ibom Angels captain has now been allowed to move away from the Benin club to sign for Umeå, following the intervention of some big shots in the Nigerian football circle.
The 22-year-old left-back, who was included in the Nigeria squad for last month’s Summer Series, has signed a deal that will keep her at Gammliavallen until 2022.
The deal is said to have been facilitated by former Nigeria international, Perpetua Nkwocha.
Ogbonna is currently with the Super Falcons who are training in Austria, and will join up with his new club team-mates on July 24.
She becomes the the fourth Nigerian to sign for the club, who were relegated to the Elitettan last year.
Fellow Nigeria star Rita Chikwelu joined the northern Sweden club in 2010 and her move to team paved the way for Ogonna Chukwudi and Ebere Orji.
Umeå are looking to make an immediate return to the Damallsvenskan after suffering their second relegation from the top-flight in four years.
The club recruited several stars — including Brazilian legend Martha — in the 2000s, and that brought them success.
Between 2000 and 2008, the club claimed seven Damallsvenskan  titles.
In the 2006 season, they won the Damallsvenskan with a 21-point margin and didn’t lose a single game.
They also won the UEFA Women’s Cup — now known as UEFA Women’s Champions League — in 2003 and 2004.
