NPFL season set to continue following LMC meeting with clubs

The Nigeria Professional Football League season will continue this weekend, with Jigawa Golden Stars taking on Lobi Stars on Saturday.

The NPFL campaign took a break on April 4 and action was scheduled to return on April 18, but due to a number of factors — including rising insecurity across the country — the league body deemed it necessary to extend the break.

On Monday, though, there were fears the league would come to an abrupt end following reports that CAF had informed its federation members that they had up till June 30 to submit names of their representatives for inter-club competitions.

Several reports suggested that the League Management Company were considering some options on how to bring the campaign to an early end.

However, it has now been confirmed that the season will continue this weekend with nine matchday 20 fixtures and a rescheduled matchday 19 tie, following a meeting between the LMC and all 20 clubs on Thursday.

On Saturday, Jigawa Golden Stars will host Lobi Stars.

Nine games will hold on Sunday, with Kwara United’s travelling to Lafia to face Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists playing away to Katsina United.
