Super Eagles watch: Okereke, Dennis inspire Club Brugge to victory

Nigeria under-23 international duo, David Okereke and Emmanuel Dennis posted impressive performance to help Club Brugge to a 4-1 home victory over Waasland-Beveren on Saturday.

Both players started together for the second time this season, with Dennis making his third league appearance, while Okereke featured in his fourth league game since the start of the 2020-21 Jupiler Pro League season on August 8.
Dennis earned Phillipe Clement’s side an early penalty, after Beveren leftback, Amine Khammas brought down the 22-year-old forward in the box, within fifteen minutes of play, allowing Hans Vanaken to convert the resultant spot kick to give Brugge a 1-0 lead.

The visitors pulled a goal back at the half-hour mark through Daan Heyman, following a hard hit counter, with VAR upholding the goal despite a tackle on Clinton Mata by Aleksandar Vukotic prior to the goal.
Vanaken headed in Ruud Vormer’s cornerkick nine minutes later to regain the lead for the defending champions.
Former Spezia forward, Okereke netted his team’s third goal – his first since December 2019 – five minutes after restart, to give the Blue-Black a 3-1 lead.The 23-year-old striker turned in Edward Sobol’s cross with his shin.
Substitute, Michael Krmencik netted Brugge’s fourth to seal a second straight win for the 16-time champions.
Dennis – who made three successful dribbles – and Okereke, were replaced on the 72nd and 77th minutes by Charles De Ketelaere and Krepin Diatta, respectively.
Club Brugge sit third on the 18-team log with nine points, while Beveren occupy the 17th spot with three points after five matches .
