Nigeria Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen has been declared Lille Player of the 2019-20 season, succeeding Ivory Coast and Arsenal striker, Nicolas Pepe, who won the 2018-19 edition.
The annual award — supported by Electrical and Electronics marketing company, Boulanger — saw the 21-year-old striker garner the highest votes from Lille fans and supporters, ahead of France’s Benjamin André and Renato Sanches of Portugal, who finished second and third, respectively.

Osimhen’s achievement is well-deserved, following his exploits and achievements in his first season at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, with top clubs in Europe reportedly lining up offers for the Nigerian.
The Ultimate Strikers Academy alumnus, who joined The Mastiffs from Belgium Jupiler Pro League club SC Charleroi, took Ligue 1 by storm with his predatory instincts for goal, netting a double against FC Nantes on his debut on August 11, 2019.
He was voted Lille’s player of the month of August and September 2019. He also won the Ligue 1 Player of the month of September 2019, becoming the third Nigerian after John Utaka and Vincent Enyeama to receive the monthly UNFP Trophées.
The former Wolfsburg striker played 27 league games – before the season was cancelled due to Coronavirus pandemic – and scored 13 goals, which tied him on the fourth spot on the goalscorers chart with PSG’s Neymar.
He added three goals to his tally in the French domestic cup competitions and two more in Europe – including strikes against Chelsea and Valencia in the UEFA Champions league – to end the season after 3,012 minutes of football action.
