Abia Warriors ordered to play next three home matches behind closed doors

Abia Warriors’ next three home matches will be played behind closed doors following League Management Company disciplinary action against the club.
The Umuahia club have been punished for disturbances that occurred during their home game against fellow Abia club Enyimba on February 16, and will play home games against Akwa United, Adamawa United and Rivers United without their fans.
In addition, Warriors have been fined 5m. The money is “to be paid within ten working days”.
Enyimba, according to the LMC, are to receive 50 per cent of the fine as “compensation for injuries and damages to property”.
Abia Warriors have been given a period of 48 hours to accept the punishment in writing or appear before a panel.
After serving the punishment, the case will be assessed again — and the ban will only be lifted if the LMC are satisfied that conditions that gave way to the crisis are not there anymore.
There was serious crowd trouble during the Abia derby at Umuahia Township Stadium shortly after the hosts threw away a penalty, with opposing fans hurling objects — including stones and bottles — at each other.
In the end, the match was abandoned after 24 minutes and the remaining minutes played the following day at Okigwe Stadium.
Enyimba won the tie 4-1 through Stanley Dimgba’s double and strikes from Victor Mbaoma and Anayo Iwuala.
