UJAH RETURNS TO MAINZ

Nigeria international Anthony Ujah has joined Bundesliga club Mainz 05 from Chinese first division side Liaoning FC.

The striker has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Zerofivers.
“DONE DEAL! @ujah21 has joined #Mainz05 on a deal until summer 2021 ✍️ The 27-year-old striker signs from Liaoning FC. Welcome back to the #Zerofivers!” the German club announced on Wednesday.

Ujah is no stranger to Mainz, having played for them in the 2011/12 Bundesliga season.
In 2012, the 6’0″ forward moved to FC Cologne, where he played for three years (two second division seasons and a Bundesliga season), scoring 36 goals in 102 competitive games.
In the 2015/16 season, he played for SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga -and in 37 competitive games, he scored 14 goals.
Mainz Sports Director, Rouven Schröder, believes the former Lillestrom player will strenghten the Rhineland-Palatinate club who are only one place above the relegation zone.
“Anthony Ujah is an athletic, determined and strong attacker who has proved his qualities at the Bundesliga level and adds real value to our squad,” he said.
During his first stinct at the Opel Arena, Ujah scored two goals in 12 appearances. This time, the striker will aim to improve on the record.
The 27-year-old spoke of his delight at returning to the club.
He said: “I am very happy that I return to Mainz because I have only good memories of my time there, I am looking forward to the Bundesliga as well and I want to help the team from the second half of the season to reach.”
