Simon Nwankwo nets brace in Crotone’s morale-boosting win over Benevento

Simeon Nwankwo scored two and set up another as Crotone beat Benevento 4-1 at home to give their Serie A survival hopes a boost.
Giovanni Stroppa’s side, who went into the tie against the team they got promoted together to the Serie A together last summer on the back of a three-game losing streak, were looking to grab their third win of the campaign.
They started the game brightly and took the lead within five minutes of kickoff through an own goal. Under pressure from Nwankwo, Poland international Kamil Glik nodded into his own net.

On 29 minutes, Nwankwo doubled the home side’s advantage with a close-range finish.
The Nigerian got his second of the afternoon nine minutes into the second period to take his tally to six this season, guiding home from 10 yards after managing to stay onside.
Milos Vulic increased the lead to 4-0 with a stunning, curling effort from the edge of the box after receiving a short pass from Nwankwo at the far side.
The Sharks were denied a clean sheet, though, with Iago Falque volleying in a late consolation seven minutes after coming on.
Despite claiming all three points against Filipo Inzaghi’s men, Crotone are still bottom of the Serie A — as fellow bottom-three clubs Torino and Parma secured a point in their respective matches.
