FLYING EAGLES ARRIVE KADUNA AHEAD OF LESOTHO CLASH
The national U-20 team, Flying Eagles on Sunday August 10, arrived in Kaduna from Abuja ahead of a final 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier against Lesotho on Saturday August 16.
A statement by the team’s Media Officer, Samm Audu, said the squad of 25 players, led by coach Manu Garba arrived on Sunday afternoon after a short bus ride from Abuja.
The statement also said that the team was putting up at the African Continental Hotel in Kaduna, where they had lodged when they hosted Tanzania in the previous round of the AYC qualifiers.
“The Flying Eagles will begin training on Monday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, where the qualifier against Lesotho will be played on Saturday,’’ the statement said.
Ahead of the crucial encounter, the team’s coach Garba Manu, has declared that Kelechi Iheanacho in spite of his recent displays for the English Premier League champions, does not have an automatic shirt in his team, unless he prove himself in training.
He also stated that in the absence of the young forward, there are equally other talented strikers in his team, like Alhassan “Muazam” Ibrahim, Taiwo Awoniyi, Suleiman Abdullahi and Wasiu “Baba Kwara” Jimoh who scored four goals as the Flying Eagles thumped Amakson Soccer Academy 7-1 on Thursday August 7, during a friendly game.
The return leg match will be played a fortnight in Maseru with the overall winners advancing to the 2015 AYC in Senegal in March.
Lesotho’s U-20 team is expected later in the week in Kaduna.
Senegalese referees had been appointed for the match.
