Super Falcons Watch: Monday Gift and Rinsola Babajide inspire UD Granadilla Tenerife to first win of the season

Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide inspired UD Granadilla Tenerife to an emphatic 4-1 victory over visiting Sevilla, at the Campo De Futbol De Adeje on Saturday.

following Gift Monday’s brace, and an assist to countrymate, Rinsola Babajide.

Monday opened the scoring on the 22nd minute, as the former FC Robo Queens winger cum attacking midfielder, took advantage of a rebound in the area to head in from close range, after goalkeeper Esther Sullastres spilled Sandra Castelló’s left-footed shot, off Babajide’s corner.

Babajide made it 2-0 six minutes later – his second goal contribution of the season, following her assist to Jassina Blom on the opening day loss at Madrid CFF – picking up a pass from Monday, before delivering a left-footed outswinger from the left, which caught Sullastres by surprise.

Six minutes before the break, Monday completed her brace, as she dived low in the box to head Koko Ange’s weighted delivery from the right into the bottom left corner.

Just before the break Tenerife’s Noela Alvarez dived at full stretch to parry away Gemma Gili’s dangerous free kick, as the host led 3-0 halftime.

After the break, Sevilla FC showed courage and pushed to reduce the deficit, but the home team took advantage with counterattacks and got a breakthrough ten minutes later, as substitute Claudia Iglesias Bicho poked in a rebound to make it 4-0, after Sevilla’s backline fumbled Babajide’s low cross.

Sevilla’s Nazareth Martin pulled a goal back just after the hour mark to reduce the deficit, following a goal-mouth scramble, as Tenerife gifted the home fans a victory in their first home game of the season.

The blue and white are are now set for the next match, away to RCD Espanyol, scheduled for Sunday, 22 September at 10:00 am (GMT)
