Super Eagles Watch: Ndidi’s double assists helps Leicester City secure a point at Selhurst Park

Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi produced double assists in a Premier League matchday four tie, as his side Leicester City surrendered a first half lead to settle for a draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Foxes took a first-half lead through a Jamie Vardy strike, following a well-timed through ball from Wilfred Ndidi.

The former Genk midfielder produced another assist – to take his seasonal assist tally to three – just after restart to help the visitors with a two-goal lead, picking up a loose ball and laying it for Stephy Mavididi to fire into the back of the net.

The host however, pulled one back almost immediately through Jean-Phillipe Mateta, who poked Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross from the left into the net. The goal was initially flagged offside, but it eventually stood, after a lengthy VAR check.

Ndidi starred for 76 minutes, making eight ball recoveries and three passes into the final third, before paving the way for Hamza Choudhury as his side looked to see out the match.

However, Foxes’ substitute Conor Coady fouled Ismaïla Sarr in the box late in the match, allowing Mateta to complete his brace, as he sends Mads Hermansen the wrong way to complete the comeback for the hosts.

Steve Cooper’s side has just two points in four Premier League games, as Ndidi and his teammates are still searching for their first maximum points of the season and will be hoping to get it in front of their fans at the King Power Stadium when they host Everton on Saturday, 21 September 2024.
