Awoniyi scores as Forest cruise past Liverpool
Taiwo Awoniyi scored in the second half to earn Nottingham Forest a shock win against Liverpool at the City Ground.
Handed his fifth start of the campaign, the 25-year-old made the most of the opportunity by finding the back of the net ten minutes after the break.
The Nigeria international, who joined Forest from Union Berlin in the summer, was in the right place at the right time to score against his former side after Ryan Yates’ effort came back off the post.
Signed by Liverpool in 2015, the former Nigeria U17 star failed to make a single appearance for the Reds owing to work permit.
He was loaned out seven times to six clubs by the Anfield club, before being sold to Union Berlin in 2021.
Saturday’s match-winner against Jürgen Klopp’s men took his league tally to three for the season, having previously scored against West Ham and Fulham.
