Confederation Cup: Rivers United’s home clash with Al Masry moved to Enyimba Stadium

Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium has been deemed not fit to host Rivers United’s Confederation Cup third preliminary round, first leg tie against Egyptian side Al Masry after it failed a Confederation of African Football inspection test.
The fixture — scheduled for 28 November — has been moved to Enyimba Stadium, the home ground of Enyimba.
“The Enyimba International Stadium Aba will act as our home ground for the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup Additional Round Playoff tie against Al Masry of Egypt on 28th November 2021,” Rivers United confirmed on Facebook.

CAF’s inspection team were, among other things, dissatisfied with the stadium’s playing turf.
Other reasons given for denying Stanley Eguma’s side the greenlight to host the tie at the 38,000-seater stadium, according to club sources, include floodlights issues and lack of a scoreboard.
After facing Al Masry on 28 November at Enyimba Stadium, Rivers United will travel to Port Said for the reverse fixture seven days later.
United were one of Nigeria’s representatives in the Champions League, but dropped into the Confederation Cup after being eliminated by Sudanese giants Al Hilal in the second preliminary round.
If they overcome Al Masry over two legs, the Port Harcourt club — who played out a 1-1 draw with Enyimba in a friendly at Enyimba Stadium on Sunday — will earn a place in the group stages of the second-tier competition.
