World Cup Qualifiers: Taiwo Awoniyi called up to Nigeria squad to replace injured Terem Moffi

Taiwo Awoniyi has been called up to the Nigeria squad for next week’s home-and-away World Cup qualifying games against Central African Republic.
The Union Berlin striker — who scored twice during Die Eisernen’s 2-1 victory at Mainz on Sunday — comes in to replace Terem Moffi, who picked up an injury during Lorient’s Ligue 1 clash with Clermont on Sunday.
Omitted from the initial 23-man squad released by Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, Moffi was called up on Thursday to take the place of Alex Iwobi, who has been ruled out of the games through injury.
However, he will miss the match, after being forced off the pitch in the 71st minute with an injury in Lorient’s tie with Clermont, which ended 1-1.
In-form Awoniyi, who joined Union permanently for a fee of €5m from Liverpool in the summer, has been announced as his replacement.
Awoniyi netted a brace against his former club Mainz to take his tally to five for the season.
