NPFL: Shehu Dikko debunks reports claiming remainder of 2019/20 season matches will be held in China

Chairman, League Management Company, Shehu Dikko, has dismissed claims that the 2019-20 Nigeria Professional Football League season will be concluded in China.
The NPFL was suspended on March 18 in response to the coronavirus outbreak which has forced a lockdown across the world.
However, given a steady decline in the number of new coronavirus cases, some countries are reopening for business, and a number of them have announced dates football action would return.
The NPFL, too, appears to near a return, after Dikko said, “I would discourage discussions to declare anybody champions, [there is] absolutely nothing about declaring Plateau United champions.”
Also, after a meeting between the LMC and NPFL clubs on April 23, the LMC supremo had said, “It was unanimously agreed that we would continue to liaise with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Sports Ministry on the possibilities that would work for us and taking into consideration decisions that may be reached by CAF and FIFA with regards to international tournaments, calendar and regulations etc. So, any option and/or format that may be chosen will also consider the available time frame within this framework.”
An online news outlet on Wednesday reported that the LMC was considering holding the remainder of the 2019-20 season in the Asian country.

But Dikko, who doubles as the Nigeria Football Federation second Vice President, has denied the claims.
The LMC boss, who was talking to Lagos-based radio station, Lagos Talks, was quoted as saying: “[We are considering plans] to travel to play the final games in China [among other] options [to] ensure that no matter what happens, we complete the season and ensure we maintain the integrity of the NPFL.”
Responding to a discourse on the issue on a WhatsApp page named “TANNN”, Dikko wrote: “Thank God you heard the Interview. It’s simply FAKE NEWS… Sad though this is how low some can go in the name of driving traffic to their sites…. Just yesterday Mauritania 🇲🇷 FA said they will be spending 3million Mauritania Francs (about $320k) to support their system and someone deliberately reported that they will be spending $3m USD so it will trend.”
