Mfon Udoh signs for USL Championship side FC Tusla from Akwa Utd
Nigeria international Mfon Udoh has joined USL Championship side FC Tusla on a one-year contract.
Udoh, record holder for the most goals scored in a single Nigeria Professional Football League season, moves to the american second-tier club from Akwa United.
FC Tusla confirmed the deal, which is subject to federation and league approval, on Monday.
The club announced on Twitter: “The 🇳🇬 ➡️ Tulsa continues in 2⃣0⃣2⃣0⃣!
“We have ✍️ @NPFLOfficial record goalscorer @MfonUdoh_10 to our 2020 @USLChampionship roster.
“Welcome, Mfon!”
The 27-year-old brings an impressive goalscoring pedigree from the NPFL to Michael Nsien’s team.
Udoh is the only player in NPFL history to score more than 20 goals in a single season — and his record of 23 goals, set in the 2014-15 season, remains unbroken.
Last season, the former Enyimba captain became the only player to top the NPFL scoring charts in two different seasons when he scored ten goals to finish joint-top scorer with Sunusi Ibrahim in the regular season of the abridged league.
Udoh, who joined Akwa United for a second spell last season after three seasons at Enyimba, has been signed by FC Tusla alongside fellow Nigeria international, Solomon Kwambe.
Kwambe moves to the Oklahoma club from Lobi Stars, who currently lead the NPFL.
Capped 18 times by Nigeria, Benue-born Kwambe featured in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
With the US outfit having already signed Toby Uzo and Raphael Ayagwa, Udoh and Kwambe’s switch to the club brings the number of Nigerians at ONEOK Field to four.
