FOREIGN LEGION: SIMY SCORES SENSATIONAL BICYCLE-KICK GOAL AGAINST JUVENTUS
Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo grabbed the headlines at the Studio Ezio Scida as Crotone came from behind to earn a point against Juventus in the Serie A on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old scored a stunning bicycle-kick goal — similar to the one netted by Cristiano Ronaldo at the Allianz Stadium earlier this month — to put his side level after Alex Sandro had put The Old Lady in front with a brilliant header.
Midfielder Andrea Barberis headed a cross back toward the middle of the box, Marcello Trotta attempted a wild rip at the pass, but couldn’t get a good hit — and with his miscued effort bouncing up into the area, Simy, with his back to goal, leapt into the air and acrobatically fired past Wojciech Szczesny.
During the celebrations of Nigerian’s goal, the crowd at the Scida Stadium chanted ‘Simy like Ronaldo’.
The overhead kick also attracted attention from the Italian press.
Here are some tweets about the goal.
Talking to Premium Sport after the final whistle, the striker said: “We are happy for the result. It’s very important for us. I dedicate this goal to my family. I thought about it and I tried to do it.”
Reacting to Crotone fans’ chants during the game, Simy said: “The Scida (Crotone’s home ground) is amazing, the crowd always provide you the right motivations.
