LIGUE 1 CLUB ANGERS INTERESTED IN ENYEAMA

Vincent Enyeama’s hopes of making Nigeria’s squad for next year’s World Cup have received a boost, as struggling Ligue 1 side Angers are considering a January swoop for the former Nigeria international.
Authoritative outlet L’Equipe reports that Stéphane Moulin’s side — who currently lie in the relegation zone — are in the market to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the second stanza of the season, and the former Nigeria captain has been identified as one of the players who can help the club escape the drop.
Enyeama, 35, was frozen out of LOSC following Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival last summer.
Despite the departure of the Argentine technician, he does not seem to be part of the plans of LOSC; and with Mike Maignan and Kouakou Koffi impressing, chances of the two-time CAF Champions League winner reclaiming his position as first-choice goalkeeper at Les Dogues seem small.
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is looking for options to fortify his goalkeeping department, after seeing the likes of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi struggle.
Enyeama announced his retirement from international football in October 2015 following a spat with erstwhile coach, Sunday Oliseh.
In October, Rohr stated he wants ex-Enyimba man back in the Nigeria team. He, however, gave conditions, which included the goalkeeper’s return to full fitness and regular club football.
The former Maccabi Tel Aviv shot stopper has fulfilled one of the conditions — and with Angers’ reported interest, a place in Rohr’s team for Russia 2018 could be within reach.
