BALOGUN HELPS CLUB STAY IN BUNDESLIGA

Mainz secured their topflight status on Saturday after coming from 2-0 down to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-2.
The 0-fives went into the Matchday 33 game with their Bundesliga destiny not completely in their hands. Three minutes before the break, though, taking care of things from their own end seemed difficult as they were staring relegation in the face. Branimir Hrgota got in around the back and volleyed in from a tight angle to put the visitors in front.
Things soon got worse for Mainz- who featured Stefan Bell and Leon Balogun in the centre of defence- in the second half, and luck was not on their side as Hrgota’s header was saved and Jannik Huth’s clearance off the line hits Haris Seferovic and goes in, without the Swiss forward knowing much about it.
The sleeves were rolled up and two goals in as many minutes – a venomous Jhon Cordoba effort and a header from Stefan Bell – brought Mainz back on terms.
More was to follow as Yoshinori Muto headed in a third and Pablo De Blasis scored from the spit to secure victory.
The win and results elsewhere sealed Mainz’s place in the top flight next season.
