AKWA UNITED UNVEIL NEW KITS
NPFL club Akwa United have unveiled their new kits for the upcoming season.
The kits, manufactured by Owu Sportswear, were launched at the club’s house, Uyo.
The Promise Keepers have ditched the traditional all-blue at home games, and have instead opted for an orange shirt with a white sleeve that has an orange trim on its upper side and cuffs.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the club chairman, Paul Bassey, said changes were made to Akwa’s kits to reflect the colours of Akwa Ibom State.
He said: “It is only proper that Akwa United, the flagship of sports in this state (Akwa Ibom), should use the state colours.”
Bassey expressed delight at the kit partnership.
“We were considering the option of locally producing our  jersey.
“Luckily for us we got in contact with a domestic kit sponsor, Owu, and we started talking with them.
“The good part of the deal is that the jersey is eventually free, we didn’t have to pay one kobo for it.”
Akwa United, who finished 14th in the league last season, will begin the 2016/17 NPFL campaign away at ABS FC Ilorin on Sunday, January 15, before playing host to Rivers United on Wednesday, January 18, in a week two encounter.
