Gunmen abduct Enyimba star Ekundayo Ojo
Enyimba midfielder Ekundayo Ojo has been kidnapped by a gang of armed men.
The incident took place along the Benin-Owo road on Sunday.
“Enyimba Football Club can announce that midfielder Ekundayo Ojo has been abducted by gunmen along the Benin-Owo expressway,” confirmed the Aba club.
Ojo was traveling to Akure with fellow Enyimba star Emmanuel James and Abia Comets’ Benjamin Iluyomade — following the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League due to the Covid-19 outbreak — before he was abducted.
Iluyomade was also taken by the armed gang, but James reportedly escaped.
The abductors have since contacted the Nigeria international’s family and moves have been made to secure his release.
Ojo, 25, joined Enyimba in December from Sunshine Stars.
He represented Nigeria at the 2018 African Nations Championship.
