Akwa United football club of Uyo have acquired the services of six players to bolster its squad for the second round of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League.
The League Management Company on Friday cleared four players from Heartland, and one each from Abia Warriors and Papillo FC to feature for the 2015 Federation Cup champion between 2015/2016 and 2018/2019 seasons.
From Heartland FC are Babangida Hassan, Julius Gideon, Amaechi Orji and Forward, Fortune Omoniwari. Alhassan Dosso joins from Abia Warriors, while center forward Michael Ikpe signs from Nwankwo Kanu owned academy, Papillo FC.
LMC Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar confirmed that Akwa United met the mandatory requirements for player transfer during the mid-season.
“Akwa United provided the mandatory club players’ attestation that salaries have been paid up to date.
“This is consistent with our requirements to ensure that no club that has outstanding salary obligation to players of its team transact business in the transfer market. We won’t allow a club owing players to bring on new ones, he said.”
Meanwhile, the six new players have made the trip with other players to Ibadan, where they will engage 18th placed Shooting Stars in one of the Matchday 20 fixtures at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday.
