ANDERLECHT INSIST ONYEKURU NEEDS SURGERY, BUT THE STRIKER RETURNS TO NIGERIA

Anderlecht forward Henry Onyekuru has returned to his homeland of Nigeria to continue his recovery from a knee injury.

The Nigeria international was taken off in a stretcher during the Purple and White’s league tie against his former club Eupen on December 22.
Scans confirmed he tore his medial ligament, and would face surgery as well as lengthy rehabilitation. But, several Belgian reports claimed that the player would not require an operation.
Anderlecht, however, responded to the claims, insisting their top scorer would go under the knife.
“Onyekuru immediately underwent the necessary examinations last weekend, after which the medical staff of RSC Anderlecht and the treating physician were of the opinion that an operation is inevitable,” the club said in a statement.

The Brussels-based club also hinted that the player’s parent club Everton would be consulted before a final decision is taken on the matter.
“In view of the severity of the injury, the flank attacker will be out of action for several months in order to be able to recover optimally. Further details are discussed with Onyekuru’s mother club Everton.”
Given the 20-year-old’s revelation that he’s back in Nigeria to continue his rehabilitation, it appears The Toffees did not recommend surgical operation for the injury.
