We cannot deceive ourselves”: Kano Pillars gaffer gives up on NPFL title race

With three round of games until the end of the Nigeria Professional Football League season, interim technical adviser of Kano Pillars, Ibrahim Musa, appears to have thrown in the towel in the title race.
Pillars sit third in the standings, though level on points with second-placed Nasarawa United and Enyimba, who occupy fourth spot.
Akwa United lead the table by six points and with just three games left to play, the Promise Keepers look destined to secure their first-ever league title.
The Uyo team are four points away from wrapping things up, and Musa suggests the title race is over.
Speaking after Pillars pipped Abia Warriors 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna thanks to Rabiu Ali’s penalty, the gaffer said his side would have to settle for second place.
“Sincerely speaking, as Akwa United have won [against Jigawa Golden Stars] today, we cannot deceive ourselves [that we still have a chance to win the league]. Let’s go and fight for the second position in order to secure continental football.”
Sai Masu Gida face Kwara United away on Wednesday, Wikki Tourists in Kaduna on Sunday, and play Heartland in a final-day tie in Owerri on Against 8, and Musa feels his team must fight hard to finish in the top three.
“We need to go out to see. If we cannot win the [two] away matches, at least let’s get a win and a draw, and then win our last home game.”
