Ndifreke Effiong seals Al Ahly Benghazi move

Ndifreke Effiong has brought the curtain down on his Akwa United career by joining Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi.
Effiong, who moved to Akwa United from Abia Warriors in January 2019, has signed a three-year-and-a-half year deal with the Benghazi club, who reached the group stages of this year’s Confederation Cup.
“Together, we welcome our second deal in the Mercato, Nigeria’s striker top scorer, Ndefrike Efiong, will strengthen our team for 3 and a half years, starting from the second leg,” the club announced the deal on Twitter.

The Ikono-born striker was reportedly on the wishlist of a number of European and north African clubs in 2020 after netting 11 goals in 21 matches for Akwa United in the 2019-20 season, but no deal could be reached due to the coronavirus crisis that disrupted football activities across the world.
And following another brilliant campaign that has seen him sit joint-top of the NPFL goalscoring charts after scoring eight goals, the 22-year-old had attracted interest from a host of clubs, but on Wednesday Effiong opted to pen a deal with Al Ahly Benghazi.
Since his Abia Warriors days, Effiong has consistently been among the top scorers.
In 62 league appearances for Akwa United, Effiong netted 26 goals.
