Akwa United’s weekend trip to Jigawa Golden Stars plunged into doubt after auto crash

This weekend’s Nigeria Professional Football League fixture between Jigawa Golden Stars and Akwa United has been thrown into doubt after a bus carrying Akwa United players and officials was involved in an accident along Ezionye Express Way, Enugu, on Friday morning.
The Uyo club were en route to Kaduna where they were due to face Jigawa Golden Stars on Sunday.
Several players and officials reportedly sustained injuries during the crash, while a player and two officials — including a driver — were taken to hospital.

Those taken to hospital, according to a club official who spoke exclusively to 234football, were in stable condition.
The official also confirmed that the Akwa United travelling party is due to return to Uyo on Friday evening.
Following the incident which saw the Akwa United team bus collide with a fuel truck, the tie looks unlikely to go ahead on Sunday.
