Ex-Nigeria U20 star Aremu Afeez moves to St. Pauli

Bundesliga 2 outfit St. Pauli have confirmed the signing of former Nigeria U20 international Aremu Afeez from Norwegian club IK Start.
Afeez moves to the Millerntor Stadion on a three-year deal.
The midfielder, 20, joined IK Start in January 2018 from Inter Allies without playing for the Ghanaian side, after leaving Akwa United.
“FC St. Pauli added another piece to their squad puzzle with the acquisition of defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu from Norwegian top-division club IK Start on a contract that will run until 30 June 2023,” the club announced on their official website.
Details of the transfer have not been made public, but a number of sources claim St. Pauli paid €200,000 for the Ibadan-born player.
Afeez, who notched five goals and one assist in 63 competitive appearances for IK Start, has been assigned the no.14 shirt.
St. Pauli Director of sport, Andreas Bornemann, revealed his delight after the former Sunshine Stars man signed for the club.
He said: “Afeez Aremu fits the profile we were looking for in defensive midfield. He’s athletic and aggressive in the tackle and already has a wealth of professional experience despite his young age. We therefore believe he won’t find it difficult to settle in with us.”
Head coach, Timo Schultz, added: “In Afeez we’re getting a component our squad had been lacking. He’s the dynamic ‘enforcer’ type of player I was after. He’s already completed several seasons at a high level and at his age has potential to develop at the same time.”
