Ifeanyi George killed in car accident
Enugu Rangers forward Ifeanyi George has died in a car crash at the age of 26, it has been confirmed.
George, who was a passenger in the ill-fated vehicle, was traveling with two friends to Lagos from Enugu but two hours into the journey, their car crashed into a stationary truck along the Onitsha-Agbor-Benin road.
According to sources, the trio decided to take a trip to Lagos to be with their families after Rangers granted the team a ten-day break — starting from Friday — following the suspension of all football activities by NFF as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
“We lost Ifeanyi George this morning,” the Flying Antelopes reported.
Rangers chairman, Davidson Owumi, added: “We’ve just heard this disturbing news this morning and what we hear is not palatable. I await information from my officials that are already on their way to the spot where the accident was said to have taken place. We call for prayers in this hour of pains.”
The identities of the other occupants of the car were not established as of the time of filing this report, but reports say one of them was also confirmed dead.
George was Rangers’ joint top scorer in the CAF Confederation Cup with two goals.
He missed recent victories against Rivers United and Dakkada due to injury.
