Enugu Rangers complete Israel Abia and Ifeanyi Nweke double transfer swoop

Enugu Rangers have wrapped up the signings of Sunshine Stars striker Israel Abia and Kano Pillars defender Ifeanyi Nweke.
After a disappointing start to the season which has seen them pick just two points from four games in their Confederation Cup group and 12 points from 11 league games, Rangers are in the market to bolster their squad.
On Friday, the Flying Antelopes who are second from bottom in the Nigeria Professional Football League — though with four games in hand — announced the signing of Israel Abia from Sunshine Stars.
The striker who tops the NPFL’s scorers’chart, joins Rangers on loan for the rest of the season.
Abia grabbed headlines in early December when he scored a quadruple of goals in Sunshine Stars’ 4-2 home win against Nasarawa United.
Two weeks after that scoring spree, Abia sat out Sunshine Stars’ trainings in order to force a move away from Akure Township Stadium.
The Enugu-born player signed the dotted lines at Rangers’ secretariat. After putting pen to paper, he said: “I am very happy to be here in Rangers to contribute my quota towards seeing that we end the season on a high.”

Also completing a move to Ogui on Friday was Ifeanyi Nweke.
Like Abia, the Nigeria international had to force a move away from his former club to join the seven-time league champions, who earned a 2-1 win at Warri Wolves on Wednesday.
An altercation reportedly ensued between the player and Pillars secretary Sayyadi Abdullahi at the club’s office after Nweke demanded for clearance to leave the club.
After the incident, Pillars issued a statement, suspending the player.
“The management of Nigeria Professional Football League outfits, Kano FC have suspended its player, Ifeanyi Nweke indefinitely with an effect from Monday 13th January, 2020,” a club statement said.
Since suspending the right-back, Sai Madu Gida have not commented on the matter, and it now appears the matter has been resolved, hence the player’s move to the Coal City.
Nweke, 22, and Abia could make their debuts for the Enugu club — who are aiming to turn their season around — as early as Sunday in the clash with Abia Warriors.
