CONFEDERATION CUP: ENYIMBA'S HOME GAME MOVED TO NEST OF CHAMPIONS
Enyimba’s next Confederation Cup match has been moved from U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, to Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The decision to move the Aba club’s matchday three tie — against Ivorian club Williamsville AC — away from Big Qua was taken after Malian side Djoliba lodged a complaint with CAF over the state of the pitch at the Calabar stadium, where Enyimba have been playing their home matches since last year.
Originally, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, was picked to replace the U.J. Esuene stadium but scheduling brought a challenge, and Enyimba had to seek another venue.
Speaking to 234football, the club’s Media Officer, Farriel Alaputa, revealed that the decision to move the match to Uyo had to do with the lighting system at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
“CAF slated the match to be played in the night. But the floodlights [at the Amiesimaka Stadium] is faulty. So, we had to look for an alternative venue,” he said.
The fixture against the table-topping Ivorian side is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, July 18.
Enyimba lie third in the group C standings, after picking three points from the opening two games.
