Nigeria international Brown Ideye has joined La Liga outfit Málaga CF on loan until the end of the season from Chinese side Tianjin Teda.
Ideye moved to the Chinese Super League in February 2017 from Olympiakos. However, he couldn’t replicate his goalscoring form there, scoring just four goals in 15 games across all competitions.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “The striker successfully passed the relevant medical examination at Vithas Salud Rincón Medical Center Rosaleda.”
He becomes the club’s fifth winter signing after Ignasi Miquel from CD Lugo, Chile international Manuel Iturra from Club Necaxa, Alberto Bueno and Samu García on loans from Porto and Levante respectively.
The player expressed his delight at joining the Spanish club, writing on Instagram: “So happy to have signed for Malaga on loan in one of the biggest leagues in the world.
“I enjoyed my time at Tianjin Teda and I want to thank the management and fans. Now onto a new chapter of La Liga, Big thanks to everyone who makes this possible for me I’m Grateful. I can’t wait to get started!.”
The 29-year-old started his career at Nigerian side Bayelsa United, before Ocean Boys, Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax and FC Sochaux of France. He then moved to Ukranian giants Dynamo Kyiv in 2011, where his impressive performance earned him a move to Premier League side West Brom.
During his time in England, Ideye managed to score seven goals in 31 games and then joined Greek giants Olympiacos, guiding them to two league titles in 2016 and 2017.
